We pre-purchased the book because our 10yr old has read each book in the series. When we got the notice that the book would be delivered, he couldn't wait to get it. Once it arrived he ripped open the package then ran to his room to read it. He was done in a day... then all of his friends at school, who saw him reading it, wanted to borrow it.I do have to say, we are fairly avid Anime fans and have got our son hooked on thing like: Totoro, Ponyo (along with other Studio Ghibli titles), Log Horizon, SAO, Magus Bride, etc.; as well as on some of the Manga. I really can't say enough about this series, which I've also read. The world that Kazu Kibuishi crafts is extremely interesting. The message of perseverance after a loss, the importance of family, trusting people of all races, and finding the power within us is a great one for kids and adults. Some parts are are a little dark but not really frightening for younger kids. The story keeps you interested to the last page, then wanting more.
I loved it! It had a lot of dreams, but it was still great. I am 9 years old and I read it in 45 minutes. You really should read them in order. I can't wait for book number 9, but I think it concludes with number 9- so that will be the very end.
Ive been an amulet fan for a while. as you would expect i was very exited to find out there was going to be an 8th book. i preordered the book right away. as i was reading it i realized that not only did this book have unexplained plot points but once navin and the other pilots are greeted they say the same thing that they said in book 5 "your help is greatly apreciated" well in book 5 there military gets destroyed. WHAT DO YOU KNOW the military gets destroyed but in the lamest way possible. All we get to know about how is from an explosion in the background of a tiny screen. If your a amulet fan i recomend passing on this book. i might make a follow up comment later going in more detail about this dissapointing book.
This is the eighth volume in the Amulet graphic novel series. The illustration remains amazing and the story makes some good progress too. I continue to be impressed with how well done this graphic novel series is.In this volume Emily struggles to gain control of her Amulet and escape the Void. Meanwhile Trellis is trying to take his place as rightful king of the Elves. Navin goes to Lighthouse One and leaves on a mission to help protect the worlds against the Shadow forces. The story is moving a bit slow and it jumps between a lot of people and places in this book. However, I am still really enjoying it. At some point I would like to sit down and read all these volumes back to back. Since these books seem to be coming out at the rate of a volume every other year it would be great to have a “story thus far†in the front of these books. There was quite a bit of character development in this series, despite all the jumping around. It was great to see what a force Emily is becoming, and there were some interesting twists around her character in here.Overall this is another great volume in this top notch fantasy graphic novel series. There is only one more volume in this series and I am eager to see how it wraps up!
Some of the words he encountered are new and difficult to sound out, but my kid loves the storyline of the Amulet series, has grown an affinity to certain characters, and happily reads these. He likes the all-dialogue text with illustrations, so graphic novels have become his favorites. Amulet is definitely among the better series he could get into. It’s not silly, it has some good lessons, the adventure is high action with good pacing, and illustrations are phenomenal.
I love this book because it's brighter than 1-7, there are new characters & space! It's very intriguing & my new favorite. I love it when they (spoiler!).... I recommend this book for people who are different than others or believe that girls are powerful or just like SciFi. (Review dictated by a 9 year old)
Continues the good story onwards. It took so long in between no 7 and no. 8 that I forgot all about the original plot. God excuse to read it all again. Hope no. 9 (and final??) does not take as long to publish.
Amulet 7 left us on quite the cliffhanger, and we got quite fidgety this summer waiting for the rest of the story. As of this writing we're just 86 pages in, and no spoilers, but we'll just say that Mr. Kibuishi is outdoing himself! What's gonna happen with Emily?!? Just get the book already! :-D
