If you buy one book in your acupuncture career, let this be it.I was introduced to this book midway through school, at a point where I was realizing the severe limitations of TCM. This was what I felt was missing from the TCM-driven education process, and to say I feel fortunate to have found this information is an understatement. The value of this book cannot be quantified by a price tag, and you will not find this information elsewhere in such an easy (relatively) to understand format. It is the result of 20+ years of Ann's study with Jeffrey (Yuen); it will require study; it is not cookbook medicine (thank you, sweet baby Jesus!). This information will require study, as compared to the memorization required by typical schooling, but it will revolutionize your practice, the results you can facilitate for your patients, and probably your life, too.

The material in this book is from the tradition of Jeffrey Yuen; and gives complete instruction on the use of the secondary vessels of acupuncture -- the sinew, luo, divergent and 8 extraordinary channels . The term "secondary" is a misnomer, one that the author addresses in the book, because the word itself seems to imply that these channels are secondary in importance. However, as the author mentions in the book, nothing could be further from the truth. These channels are very important to the practice of acupuncture, yet do not get thoroughly addressed in acupuncture education. This book goes through each of these channel systems, and teaches how to diagnose and treat using each. The book is immensely practical and a necessary addition to the library of any acupuncturist. I've had the great opportunity to attend classes taught by the author on this material; and highly recommend this book. This book, I should add, is not for the layperson. It will not make much sense to you if you have no training as an acupuncturist. If you're an acupuncturist or a student in acupuncture school, you really need to get this book.

"Advanced Acupuncture" is the definitive replacement to Royston Low's hard to come by, out of print book, "The Secondary Vessels of Acupuncture."It is well written and to the point, and easily referenced when in the clinic. It also has excellent diagrams of the channels that are clear and simple and accurate. Ann has managed to distill the essence of Jeffrey Yuen's teachings on the secondary vessels, and it really shines! This book is currently carried in the library of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York, and I recommend it to all of my students there who have an interest in the secondary vessels.

Ann synthesized 20+ years of Study with Jeffery Yuen and was able to write clear linear protocols that can be instantly put to practice. The explanation of complementary channels and their applications are not able to be found anywhere, unless you devote the same time to study with masters. This book is everything and is a true treasure. I am still amazed by what one can accomplish with complementary channels. Classical Acupuncture resources are extremely rare to find, especially in this clear context. Advanced Acupuncture explains the progression of disease- from acute injuries to auto immune and literally ways to treat these pathologies on every level. I am amazed at the results I have been able to accomplish- while using only a fraction of protocols in this book. I could not recommend enough!!! Thank you for this beautiful work.

Channel theory came alive for me with this book! It's concepts, with time, study and application, open a whole different way to assess pathology by location in the channels. With the channels as a framework treatment becomes more and more succinct and effective. My practice has been consistently full since I began using the compliment channels. Thanks to Ann for her transmission of decades of integration of this system and classical Chinese medicine!

This is a well written and accessible textbook on the use of the Secondary Vessels of Chinese Medicine. Cecil-Sterman presents a clear point of introduction to the clinical use of these often misunderstood and overlooked channels. Our teacher, Jeffrey C. Yuen, has spent a lifetime providing students and practitioners alike with an intellectual framework for understanding the theory and use of the Secondary Vessels. Cecil-Sherman has written an essential volume for Acupuncturists looking to gain a greater understanding of how apply this framework to their clinical practice.

My understanding and knowledge about chinese medicine has been leveraged by this beautiful book and its surprising content. Advanced topics in acupuncture are detaily explained by Ann Cecil Sterman likewise her profound experience. She achieves to give the reader a delicate meaning of ancient classic chinese medicine quoting the most impportant masters resulting in a brand new efffective acupuncture treatment method. For quite a long while I have been delving into many acupunture and chinese medicine books but this one from Ann is way the best that I've found being the ever reached book from my bookshelf. Thanks Ann for this great material

An indispensable and unprecedented text. This is the distillation, compilation, of Ann Cecil-Sterman's studies with Jeffrey Yuen, over years of oral transmission. With the blessing of her teacher she has generously shared with practitioners of Classical Chinese Medicine, aspiring and established alike, with the hope of bringing these ancient practices back into prominence, at a time when the worlds people and our planet need it. I use this book for reference in my clinic, but it has also been, in many respects, my entree into the medicine. May this book have great longevity! It will continue to be useful.

I really wanted to like this book and there are parts of it I did. A feasible theory based on a real person - a controversial, charismatic, flawed man who made a difference and became a martyr by being assassinated. Was this a carefully thought out and orchestrated killing engineered by the powers that be or by the man himself? Fascinating premise wound into a novel by an author who does it so well.....just not this time. Somehow it just misses...it seemed to drag in so many places I would lose interest which is unusual in a Steve Berry story.

For fans of the previous twelve Cotton Malone novels, by author Steve Berry, his most recent novel “The Bishop’s Pawn”, takes the reader back eighteen years when Stephanie Nelle plucked Cotton from his navy legal position to take on an assignment for the Justice Department. This was not a normal assignment and within 48 hours Cotton had earned his spurs that would make him eventually the first recruit in the secretive Magellan Billet of the Justice Department.History has still not fully shown the possible role of J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI in the murder of Martin Luther King on that dark April day in Memphis in 1968. A former operative of both the FBI & CIA, who lives in Cuba, has files accounting for the role of the FBI in the murder and he is willing to exchange them for a 1933 Double Eagle, the most valuable coin in the world. One of Martin Luther King’s lieutenants has such a coin, although how he happened to have it, is a mystery.Cotton’s boss, Stephanie Nelle, learns of the planned exchange of the Double Eagle for the files, which are now on a sunken ship in the Dry Tortugas, and sends Cotton to retrieve the files before the ex-operative from Cuba can retrieve them from the sunken ship. As it turns out, there are several retired FBI agents who worked for Hoover, that do not what their roles in the MLK murder known. They will do anything to get those files. The fireworks, as in all Cotton Malone novels, thus begins with fury. This story is a combination of novel and fact, and at times it was a case of which is fact and which is not. Considering that it is fifty years this month since MLK was murdered, it was important to have an iPad nearby for constant googling, as this reader’s memory was somewhat faded from that era. Finally, as one returns to 2018, it is curious that there continues to be mysteries within the FBI, both from Hoover’s days to the current political days, that hopefully will eventually made known.

Just gave up on it. One long chase from one lucky escape to another. Skipped lots to return to the plot but couldn't finish. Agree with the comments in the 2 star group.

The Bishop's Pawn by Steve Berry Cotton Malone #13As Mr. Berry tells us: "The idea for this book has swirled around my head for more than a decade, but I delayed its writing until 2018 and the fiftieth anniversary of the King assassination." It's amazing that it's been that long since Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination and we still are as ignorant of what happened as we were then. Most likely we'll never know the truth. That said, I find Mr.Berry's interpretation of the events that lead to MLK's death quite interesting, and probably raise more questions than it answers. One thing I do believe, his death gave an ulterior meaning to MLK's life. Mr. Berry's take is a blend of facts and fiction, something that makes it quite interesting and I found it to be appropriate to remember MLK's life.Narrated from the first person point of view, it showcases Cotton Malone's first mission as a member of the Magellan Billet. This is Berry's first take on that point of view and I did not care as much for it. Would have loved it better if he has used several points of view as he always had in the past.Nonetheless, I felt it was a good way to pay tribute to MLK's legacy!

I have been reading Berry's novels for years and they usually get a 4 or 5 star rating from me. Not so in this case.In my opinion the plot does not make sense - that the Rev. Martin Luther King would place one of his trusted aids in a position to become at his (King’s) request an FBI informer and then have said informer suggest (at King's direction) that they, the FBI, should arrange the assassination of King himself to make him a martyr and "save the Civil Rights Movement” - come on now - that just strains one's ability to suspend reality while reading a novel.Berry tells this story as a prequel to his Cotton Malone series - taking us back to the year 2000 when Cotton was first recruited by Nelle. In this time frame he becomes aware of the MLK plots. These types of prequels rarely work, and this is not exception. My guess would be that after Perry came up with this plot, he figured to insert it into the Cotton Malone series to get an assured purchaser base. Well, this book does not fit in with the series and it can be skipped as far as I am concerned. I doubt, if any references are made to it in future Cotton Malone novels.Perry takes all of the "obligatory", after the fact stabs, at the FBI under Hoover, as required in, today's literary environment. In most of Perry's books, he changes the perspective around to give the reader multiple views of what is going on and what the various characters are thinking. Not so, in this novel - he sticks with one viewpoint - that of Cotton Malone. A mistake in my opinion.Usually Perry does a decent job of research - however, that seems to be lacking in this novel - an example is shown from page 178 "J. Edgar Hoover thought himself a master of the intelligence business. Before 1947 he was with the CIA and did a good job rooting out Nazi spies in World War Two". As point of fact Hoover started with the Justice Department in 1919 and became the head of the Bureau of Investigation in 1924, which later became the FBI – He spent his entire career there at Justice. Also, no one could have been with CIA "before 1947" as that was the year CIA was created. Sloppy research.

The I Ching is an inscrutable scripture. Its aphorisms and hexagrams are so foreign to the Western reader that any English translation or application is as good as another. It literally boils down to “your guess is as good as mine.”So it is with this translation. It is an interesting take on the meaning of the sayings within the Book of Changes. I do not understand Chinese, but it does not appear to be a “translation” as such, but a “rendering.” A nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse. This rendering has its limitations and benefits.Limitations: You need to use the hexagram coins in order to obtain the full benefit of its interpretation. The translator makes so many reference to the use of the coins that I was surprised a set did not accompany the book. So if you are approaching the translation as a general reader, forget it, this is not the book for you. Benefits: On the other hand, if you are really into the I Ching and have a set of coins at your disposal, this translation will be very beneficial. Also, it correctly identifies the hexagrams to be a representation of the natural order. This is unique in the available translations. Most concentrate on the various ways in which the I Ching may be interpreted: either as a political, philosophical or divinational tract. My divination of this version: Four and a half stars.

First off I need to say clearly that this is not a direct translation of the I Ching. If you are looking for a direct Chinese-English and what it says exactly and literal then I think the Wilhelm version is best choice for you. That being said, what Jahan has put together here is absolutely amazing if you are a certain audience. That would be people that want to use the I Ching to practically cast oracles. I started using the Legge and then Wilhelm version years ago to do my castings and I was always slight perturbed that the text while perfect in its literal translation sometimes made absolutely no sense to me as a native english speaker because it actually wrote the words in English as they translated from Chinese. So for example on the Wilhelm version Hexagram 21 Changing line #2 says"Bites through tender meat,So that his nose disappears. No blame."ok, great. whatever that means. . .Now the Celestial Dragon for the same Hexagram and Changing LineLine #2 - Lost in the Law"He becomes so engrossed in the details of the work that he fails to see the greater picture. Such negligence makes a difficult time for all"So I guess it comes down to when casting the I Ching, do you want a passage that talks about biting in meat and dissapearing noses or do you want a version that is correctly relayed into English so that it is clearly understood.I know where my vote stands.Another very cool thing about Jahan's translation is he actually gives names and imagery to the changing lines. Now I think this is a liberty taken by him? beyond the original scope of the work, but it makes it very easy to get a real understanding of the nature of the lines. All in all I will repeat what I said above and if you are an I Ching scholar, you need to be aware that this captures the "spirit" of things but Jahan does take liberties to make it clearly understandable to a Western audience. However if you don't care about any of that and you just want a kick-a$$ version of the I Chiing to do your divination in a way that is easy to understand then you found your book.Hope that gives a proper weighing of the pro's and cons.

I have been through many different versions of the Yi Jing and this onepushes the boundaries and breaks through to a whole new understanding ofthe subject matter. In fact if I could recommend that you get oneYi Jing translation, then get The Celestial Dragon I Ching. There are so many reasons why it is incredible including thenames given to the Hexagrams and identifiers for the changing linesand to top it off this version has a reading for all 6 changing lineswhich I have not found anywhere else.Basically go get this. You will be making a great decision.

i am an i ching junkie and student from way back and this version is very fun and also enlightening, with a great perspective. not 100% spot on, but more spot on in many ways and in many lines than other i ching versions. i love it and refer to it often.

Modern new school interpretation. Doesn't go beyond devination like it should. Daoist I ching is a masterpiece if you want the real deal.

I've been using the I Ching for 20 years. My bookshelf is filled with books about the Book. I have a few texts that I love, and I'm always looking for other works.I wanted to like this book, especially after reading the reviews. It's beautifully designed. The cover is gorgeous and the pages are organized and laid out beautifully. On the aesthetic front, this book gets high marks. On the practical front, it's a disappointment. The main text for the hexagrams is short. Extremely short. And it's really no more practical than the Wilhelm text and, in many ways, less so. I'm not a purist and translations done with poetic license don't bother me, but I am a pragmatist and this book falls short on.If you want a book to read to get a taste of the I Ching's perspective, this may be useful. If you want a text to support work with an oracle - clear, practical, useful advice - you should keep looking. This text won't get you there. I'll be sending this one back. For practical work with the I Ching, I'd recommend The Laws of Change by Balkin, The I Ching Workbook by Wing or The Complete I Ching by Huang. If you want a more poetic take that still has some depth and substance, check out Total I Ching by Karcher.

This is THE Elvis biography to read. Peter Guralnick is incredibly responsible in his research and in what he chose to tell. He's careful about not repeating unsubstantiated gossip, yet gives you a good feel for Elvis's profound difficulties in his relationships with others, and, really, himself. This second volume is heartbreaking as we see Elvis less and less able to use and enjoy the talent and world of music that, from the first volume, we know is his true calling and true joy. Elvis was damaged in ways from very early on; Guralnick shows us how his drug use greatly exacerbated difficulties that were already there, and led to a severe decline in his health. But he does so with respect for the human being and a great love of music and appreciation for Elvis's essential love and understanding of music. It's a tragedy, but Guralnick never resorts to being exploitive. This is an extremely well-done biography.

Careless Love, the second half of Guralnick's excellent bio of Elvis, is much harder to stomach than Part 1, due to the subject matter. Where Part I, Last Train to Memphis, told the story of Elvis during his glory years and rise to stardom, when he was literally on fire, Part II, especially the latter sections, is virtually the depiction of a prolonged death march. Elvis descends into drug dependency, mental instability, financial insecurity, decline of record sales and popularity, and hastily thrown together, financially motivated tours, combined with his getting fat and fuzzy and ill-fated love affairs. Elvis's inevitable death sitting on the toilet in Graceland while trying to defecate really comes as no surprise. However, as sad as all that is, Guralnick's portrait allows us to empathize with a really human Elvis, who, once a god, disintegrates into a jumpsuited pile of self loathing, self-pity and self-destruction. The reasons for this are many and Guralnick exposes them all: the death of his mother, so called friends and family who use him for his money, the Colonial mercilessly trying to push Elvis product, no matter the cost to Elvis himself, an apparent predilection for feeling "high", Feelgood "doctors" who provide Elvis with crazy amounts of "prescribed" drugs (the toxicity report stemming from the autopsy is disgusting), and a self-loathing that equals anything in Shakespeare's great tragedies. Elvis really had no one to blame but himself for what happened-as this book makes clear. But the book also makes clear the price he pays for the otherworldly success he experienced in the first Book, in which he was depicted, rightly so, as a virtual god, and treated as such by fans and those around him. The sad thing is that the book really gets across that what really mattered to Elvis was the music and his ability to communicate through music and his performances with fans, and as his ability to do so diminished over time, for all the reasons mentioned above, his own self worth and will to live diminished as well. Elvis went from the heights of fame and fortune, and ended up by the end of this book as an overweight, delusional, whining mess who ends up dying while defecating laying in the bathroom in a pool of his own vomit. Not pretty stuff folks, and the book doesn't flinch or shy away from the grim reality that Elvis ended up experiencing. One can point to the Memphis Mafia and the stupid "tell all" book they wrote that precipitated and possibly even hastened his death (what kind of "friends" would do that to someone? and I don't buy their BS excuse that they sold the book in order to "help their friend, who otherwise wouldn't listen to him", come on, complete bull), or the Colonial who really could care less for Elvis as a person, or for anyone else for that matter as this book makes clear, (see the "Colonial's" treatment of his own family), or Ginger, his last "girlfriend" who comes across as self-serving and motivated by her family to "marry him quick before he dies" for his money, or even his dad Vernon who was ineffectual in truly being there for Elvis emotionally and was clearly on the gravy train as well. But ultimately, Elvis was responsible for Elvis. And he simply could not handle being a mature person, couldn't handle growing old. Sad. But this is a great book, well researched, well written, and sad as it is, the depth and skill of the writing allows us to really feel for Elvis. Its just too bad that those around him seemed to never have really loved him as a person. His music, legacy and influence will stand the test of time. I think it is time for a re-evaluation of Elvis the artist. Sinatra and others have experienced revivals of their music, and I think Elvis's time will come, once the caricatures and jokes disappear.

The detail of this book is deep. Mr. Guralnick is very meticulous in his chronology of events thruout Elvis' life and if anything was missed, Ijust can't imagine. Lots of new info I gleaned from this obviously well researched book . I am a true fan of Elvis Presley. This book reflects on the good and bad.. It did not change my love for this man/entertainer one bit. The one thing that is very clear in this book is that there were so many people that took advantage of him, and that is so sad and hard to accept. Perhaps if he had not had so many "hanger oners" his life wouldhave taken a different turn. It actually explains , in my opinion, why Elvis' life was cut so short. I willalways love him and his music.

Unlike the Goldman Bio in 1980 this is not a character assassination. The truth though lies somewhere between the two books; in the Guralnick version for instance Elvis's incontinence is treated as an aberration. Gold seemed to treat it as an ongoing condition because of the massive doses of pain killers Elvis ingested. It then becomes a question of perspective. While Guralnick seems to present the King as someone who was totally overwhelmed by his circumstances Gold looks at in terms of moral decay: a kind of modern day King Midas who was delighted at first with the powers he was given but ended up choking on them( yes literally in a ironic real sense too). Having said that it shows what can happen when you no longer have the burdens and some would say blessings of an ordinary life. Eat when you want play when you want remove all the constraints of a ordinary citizen. He was helped along the way with the clichés of the "Hollywood Physician " syndrome that ended Michael Jacksons career as well. So now after 650 pages I will go back to what drew me to him in the first place the Sam Phillips recordings with the Sun Label Rooster decal and remember the magic of That's All Right Mama and Heartbreak Hotel and celebrate the blessings of being part of the madding crowd...

Mr. Crosby has given us five pieces of advice in this book. They are:• Systems trump discretion.• Diversification and conviction can co-exist.• Prepare for bursting bubbles without being too fine-tuned to them.• Less is more when it comes to information.• Look for evidence, theory, and roots in behavior. While I generally agreed with Mr. Crosby’s conclusions, I think there were ways he could have improved his presentation, partially by reversing his fourth piece of advice, at least as it applies to writing the book. I found the book to largely be a well-organized assembly of other people’s work, with brief breaks to discuss them. This is where I had a problem. I don’t think he looked into some of his research examples deeply enough, violating his fifth principle. I will give three examples, all of which I have encountered before reading his book. In the first example, page 16, cites a Harvard study in which students were paired and given $100 to divide. Person 1 decided how to split it and person 2 decided whether or not to accept it. If person 2 rejected, neither got anything. Harvard found that fifty percent of the low offers were rejected. Mr. Crosby concluded that even a 99 to 1 offer should be accepted because one dollar was better than none. I disagree totally. Person 2 would either consciously or unconsciously be valuing their self in future negotiations, to their own disadvantage. What would happen if person 2 said no and the exercise was repeated a week later with the same players? Would person 1 ask for $99 dollars again? Certainly not. He might be more inclined to ask for $50 while he might have gotten $60 or more each time. Person 2 would be $48 ahead. Harvard could have run this test better, but Crosby failed to see and discuss the possibilities. What if person 1 had been given a specific amount to ask for and each participant had gone through the exercise a number of times at different amounts so that a statistical analysis could have offered information on optimal behavior in this situation? Would this not be good discussion for the investor, especially when evaluating one’s actions when the other person has the hammer? There are more possibilities, but I will move on.Mr. Crosby cites two pieces of supposed research that claim to prove that people over estimate their own abilities or characteristics. One of his examples involves asking people if they were more athletic than the average person. Eighty percent said they were above average. I have seen this before as it applies to a woman’s looks and to good drivers. None of them define terms clearly, define average, or give the person a chance to evaluate themselves in a meaningful way. As far as I know, none of them account for age, change in physical condition over time, and the effects of opinions offered by others? Even if thirty percent (do the math) of the people overestimate their place on the scale, is it because of their ego, or input from other people that helped them form their opinions? How many people tell a woman that her looks are below average, whatever that is, and how much does that impact her view of herself? Mr. Crosby and the researchers have drawn conclusions based on data, not cause and effect. They haven’t even done that. Supposedly 70% put themselves on the right side of the line. So, more than two against one made correct evaluations about themselves. That's pretty good. The third example is on page 154. Mr. Crosby does a wonderful job of telling us how to apply statistical analysis to understanding situations. However, his example is horrible and thus his lesson is limited if not almost useless. He tells us that 1 in 1,000 drivers is intoxicated and that breathalyzers are 95% correct, but that in a random check most of the positives are incorrect and gives us the analysis to back this up. As I said, the math is correct. The problem is that the one in 1,000 average is meaningless in real life. Why would I pay the police my tax dollars to catch one in 1,000 people driving drunk? The distribution of drunk drivers is not spatially or temporally even. The police need to give random checks on Las Vegas Blvd. at 1:00 A.M., not at 10:00 A.M. in your neighborhood. Mr. Crosby failed to realize that broad averages are just that and you need specific, applicable information to do good investment analysis. My suggestion for Mr. Crosby is less examples and more in-depth analysis. Do I recommend this book? Sure, just read it carefully.

If you've already read the author's prior book "Laws of Wealth" there is no need to read this one as they are very similar - including portions that are identical. If you haven't read his prior book then I highly recommend either as the subject matter is very important for investing success.

This is a book with great ambitions. In the first sentence Daniel Crosby says that the aim for The Behavioral Investor is to be the most comprehensive guide to the psychology of asset management ever written. Dr. Crosby, a psychologist by training, is the Chief Behavioral Officer at Brinker Capital and a leading blogger and podcaster on the subject of behavioral finance – this is his forth book on different topics in this discipline. Some fifteen years ago I fell in love with behavioral finance as it so obviously described aspects of investing and financial markets that traditional finance and economics didn’t. Over time the interest has however started to wane since the academics in the area devoted their energy towards adding yet another insult towards the previously dominant efficient market hypothesis creating an ever growing list of interesting and quirky behavioral biases but no real practical applications for investors. According to the author “[…] all this ends today, as we will take [these biases] and speak to the particulars of what they mean in the context of making money.” I would argue that the aim of being the most comprehensive guide is reasonably well met for a book of “only” about 250 pages. With regards to fulfilling my wish of an applied behavioral finance investment method The Behavioral Investor unfortunately only gives fairly broad guidelines. The author is well read in both academic literature and more practical investing books. Despite the author’s learnedness the language is very readable and clear as Crosby’s writing comes with a humorous and personal touch. This is a finance book without most of the technical finance jargon – although at times it instead contains some psychology terminology. Nevertheless, it’s undoubtedly a very readable book. The book is structured in four parts with the first outlining the sociological, neurological and physiological foundations to the biases investors exhibit. Then the author summarizes the many documented psychotically based follies of investors into four primary tendencies regarding ego, conservatism, attention and emotion. Part three tries to list practical measures to overcome the previously described problems and finally the book ends with the author’s “third way” of investing (as opposed to passive investing and active investing) called rules-based behavioral investing (RBI). Hence, the first half gives a background and the second half tries to apply the learnings in real life. Throughout The Behavioral Investor Crosby discusses most of all the psychological experiments and subsequent findings that a frequent reader of behavioral finance literature will ever have heard of but without it ever getting tedious.RBI is as the name suggests rules based with a high base allocation to equities implemented through a combination of value and momentum quant based equity portfolios and with an overlay of valuation (Tobin’s Q, CAPE etc.) and momentum (200-day or 10 month moving averages etc.) based rules for when to very occasionally lower the allocation of equities. The focus is to find a rational and evidence based methodology where the room for behavioral biases is kept to a minimum. Although this is only one of several good ways to manage money I personally think this is a great setup, but regrettably Cosby only gives a very fleeting description of what his RBI actually looks like. Further, the Achilles heal of the rational quantitative strategy is that it needs permanent money or else it will suffer redemptions at the exact wrong moment from its less than rational human investors. If this is one of the first books you read on behavioral finance you are to be congratulated as it will surely be mind-blowing. If you have followed the area during its development, The Behavioral Investor is a very good inventory of current knowledge but it adds relatively little new. And perhaps it’s a good thing that a best selling book cannot deliver a detailed best practice behavioral finance investing method as it is then up to me to develop it myself. This is a review by investingbythebooks.com

I consider Daniel Crosby to be one of the leading thinkers in the growing and important field of Behavioral Finance, so I was eager to read his latest. It did not disappoint. He makes such a critical point right at the start, which flows through the narrative in lots of interesting and sometimes unexpected ways: Money is not just a means of exchange, but part of human identity. It's part of who we "are" and therefore the decisions we make about spending, saving, and investing aren't just a question of arithmetic. It's more deeply about expressing our purpose -- who we are and want to be. From this powerful vantage point, Crosby masterfully introduces us to a number of detailed (but not intimidating) perspectives on how to make better decisions. The book is a tour de force.

By now, there are a ton of books on Behavioral Finance, some denser than others. Dr. Daniel Crosby does a great job by first understanding his audience. He breaks down the essentials in a clear, easy to understand framework and avoids the pomp and ego that often accompany books written by academics with advanced degrees. Furthermore, he ends the book with a series of Action Items for the reader to undertake. No matter if you're a seasoned professional or newly minted saver, 'The Behavioral Investor' will leave you with nuggets of wisdom and recommended tools to help you recognize your worst tendencies.
