I started out liking this book. Premise was good...i had read the other series of the immortal highlanders first. This book was slightly different. There will be spoilers now...1. So Bren chains Althea and locks her up and yet she just forgives and tries to save him and then falls into crazy Insta-love.2. So Althea tries to escape Bren a few times so she can rush to the rescue of the other women... But as soon as he agrees to help they take days and days to begin their journey. Almost stopped reading here but wanted to see if they could rescue the other ladies first.3. Interactions with the clansmen were weird. Conversations awkward. Made it hard to follow.4. Ice. Her gift could be useful but how does she fight at the end?!?! What?I hope the Next book is better... Other books by Hazel Hunter have been. Why on earth was this one so... Weird?
I really enjoyed the first book I read by Hazel Hunter, so I thought I'd give this one a shot. So poorly edited! Tons of typos, weirdly spelled words and plot holes. I read the entire book and still don't know why the two villainous Druids and the giants want with the four women they abducted. What do they need them for?? This didn't even seem like it was written by the same person. At one point, I came across a word I was unfamiliar with. I looked it up. No results, so I'm guessing it was a typo. Really poorly written, which is a shame.
This is a new series and it's amazing I got pulled in fast and I never wanted it to end! It's epicAlthea is a women from our time she may look like Scottish with her red hair but as soon as she spoke everyone knew where was American. She is a field botanist and came to Scotland to study the plants for meds.Murdian and Hendry are both evil druids they were made immoral so they could not be reborn into another body. Then they were imprisoned in the storr by Bhaltair Flen a Drud. Only after 1000s of years they got freed then freed their evil army. Kidnapped 5 women with druid blood to take them all back in timeChieftain Brennus of the clan skaraven and his men have been brought back to life againFantastic story amazing action full of mystery, intrigue, suspense, betrayal, and so much more it is mind blowing. I love the characters so easy to connect to and fall in love with! I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book in the series. If you love scots, time travel, amazing twists and turns then this is your new favorite story.Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
I'm giving this 4 stars, because I did read the second book. However, I think it is really 3.5 stars.It contained a lot of things I like: time-travel, magic, medieval Highland warriors, and druids. With all that, I think I set my expectations too high. The time-travel didn't seem important, except to bring the girls to a less populous time period where the evil druids could have more isolation to work their nefarious schemes. The magic was cool, but there wasn't a lot of it. The warriors were supposedly fierce, but we never saw any battles, and they could have been made much sexier. I also agree with some of the other reviewers about the story being somewhat choppy. The second book has more action, better sex scenes, and better flow, but it didn't inspire me enough to read more.
I hate it when a book leaves you in limbo I will not buy another book knowing there is such an ending thanks for nothing.
If you loves the series before this you need to read this book/series.I was mourning the loss of the last series after Gavin finished. Such entertaining writing that just captivates you to your soul, enough so that I popped the kids in the lounge room with a few movies because I knew this was going to be epic.And I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed reading about Althea. She has gumption and is someone to relate to. Brennus, well he is most certainly enjoyable. Not to in your face, but with enough mystery to keep you intrigued.The clan, well they are something. I love the back story of how they came to be and will enjoy reading more about them.Absolutely will be re-reading, at a slower pace. Might also Think about getting a Raven tattoo, because now I have to wait till June for the next instalment.Thank you again Ms Hunter air high five. Also just a thought, maybe you could have an Australian heroine?
I had never heard of or read Hazel Hunter before, but in one book, she has shot to one of my top10 writers! I'm going to try not to give spoilers here while still sharing my enjoyment of this wonderful tale. First, I would call this a 'supernatural' or 'mystical' time travel romance as there is a lot of magic involved above & beyond the time travel aspect, & what a bunch of traveling it is, too. Althea is 1 of 5 women kidnapped to assist a pair of vindictive lovers with their secret plans, including going back in time. Brennus is the leader of the all-male warrior Clan Skaraven wh0 battled to their extinction during the first century, only to be brought back to life - and forward in time - to again do battle with the foes who wiped them out. The same foes who are voluntarily working for Althea's captors. Brennus & Althea's timelines connect in the 14th century & their lives will never be the same again! If you like a little unusual in your genre, vanilla romance that's firmer than candy & flowers, & like your books like a tv series (a story arc is wrapped up in a single book, but the whole tale spans the entirety of the series), then you will enjoy this book as much as I did! Can't wait to read the rest of the series-I really want to know what the baddies are truely up to!
