While I enjoyed "The Promise" it didn't grab me as a story I was dying to hear. I would probably give it 4 stars, but have never rated it. However, being an avid Avatar Universe fan, I bought "The Search" if for no other reason than to learn the demise of Ursa, the wife of Fire Lord Ozai. Well, this story was flat out great.Without giving away the details of the story, let me give you some generalities as to what you can expect if you purchase this 240 page volume:1. A story that feels like it's right from the end of the TV show. The characters feel right, especially Sokka (who shines in this story "NATURE HATES YOU!"), the story blends well with specific episodes from Season 2 and 3, and the art is wonderful. It really feels like you're reading a mini-story arc from A: TLA.2. A book of excellent quality. Thick paper, large margins, great binding. For 30$ you're getting your money's worth. The best thing about buying this compilation is you get notes from the creators, artist, and writers in the margins that give you little bits of info on the inspiration of certain characters or events. Kind of like when Nickelodeon did their pop-up Avatar run, which they should have included on the DVD releases of the original series. Ahem....3. More Avatar Aang! Need I say more? This is the official continuation of the story. If you love Aang and Korra as much as I do, then you have to ... HAVE TO get these books. The comics are done in collaboration with the writers of the show, so as far as I know, it's canonical.Enjoy!

This is the second installment of the Avatar: The Last Airbender comic book series.If you haven't seen the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon from Nickelodeon, don't buy this until you've seen all of it and read the first comic book in the series. There is a lot of back story you need to understand in order to read this.Okay, first I will address how the book looked when I got it, which almost lost the product a star in the review process. It wasn't wrapped in any protective coating when it arrived at my door, so it was scuffed from something it had rubbed up against. There were black marks on the white cover and I was VERY annoyed. Luckily, my husband was a janitor and had a microfiber rag that took the scuff marks off without harming the cover itself. It saved Amazon's fifth star! (haha?)Anyway. This book is INCREDIBLE. The storyline involves what happened to Zuko's mother, Ursa. I think every fan of the show wanted to know what happened to her, and the makers of the show never revealed it in the cartoon. I actually looked up the story on wikipedia a long time ago, but the description of events was so convoluted I couldn't get what really happened. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You will find yourself swept up in the tale and unable to put it down.The art is a joy to view. Combined with the running commentary in the margins, everything is beautiful and purposeful. You can see the story unfold in the panels, but also through the eyes/words of the authors. The character development in this series never stops in the writing or the illustration.This is a masterful telling of tales. I am proud to put it on my shelf.

I bought the 3 individual books that make up the full story. This wraps up the big mystery of what happened to Zuko's mother. This series has been passed around to family and friends (repeatedly in some cases) who are fans of the much beloved show. Nickelodeon should get back together with creators DiMartino and Konietzko to make this into a movie (or very short 4th season). I know many people who would enjoy the seeing one more Aang adventure. The voice-acting, animation, martial art choreography, and storytelling in this series is amazing. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in bringing this lovely piece of (art)work to life. I have a granddaughter I'm waiting to share this series with. I can only imagine how much she'll enjoy it!

In this story, we see how ruthless he was through some flashbacks that are interspersed with the current adventure. Zuko and Azula as children--Azula already cruel and calculating, hiding behind her childishness to portray false innocence--are caught up in a plot that puts Ozai's deep cruelty on display, revealing why Zuko's mother disappeared and what she was forced to sacrifice.In the present, we see Azula continuing to butt heads with Zuko and with Katara, disturbing every scene with her outbursts and violence as she struggles with visions of her mother telling her her destiny lies beyond the throne. Aang and his crew continue to hunt down Ursa's past, following her trail to the thespian group she was once a part of and finally into the Forgetful Valley.The art is really top notch in this, conveying every mood with depth and implied action where appropriate, and there's that really nice humor that's familiar from the animated series in moments like Aang being asked if he has secret knowledge because of his Avatar powers only to have him reveal he read it on a sign. And theme-wise, I LOVE the extra layer of brother-sister relationship exploration. We already had Katara and Sokka contrasted powerfully with Zuko and Azula, and now we have the story of Misu and Rafa. Another sister who is loyal to her brother and wants the best for him--and is willing to sacrifice for him. It says so much about their characters when Katara recognizes herself in Misu's actions, but Azula hears nothing but a sob story. She would be an entirely unlikable character if not for her desperation that betrays deep insecurity.I'm looking forward to finding out what happens with the Mother of Faces and Zuko's mother in the final chapter!

Benn Steil, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations has written a very well researched history on the role of the Marshall Plan as the fulcrum of the Cold War. He previously wrote a history of the 1944 Bretton Woods monetary conference and that certainly prepared him to deal with the economic and geopolitical issues facing Europe at the beginning of the postwar era. He chronicles how the U.S. attitude changed from plans to deindustrialize Germany and to make the U.N. central to foreign policy toward rebuilding Germany and making NATO the focus of U.S. policy in Europe.The very fact that the U.S. would take part in both the rebuilding of Europe and entering into peacetime multi-lateral alliance represented a revolution in U.S. foreign policy. Steil highlights the role of such key figures as Marshall himself, Harry Truman and George Kennan. More importantly he brings to light the roles of Republican Senator Arthur Vandenberg moved the necessary legislation through Congress and Under-Secretary of State Will Clayton, a former cotton baron, who first articulated the strategic vision of a united Europe. We also witness the work of former car executive Paulk Hoffman running the day-to-day operations of the plan along with General Lucius Clay who acted as America’s proconsul in Germany. He also noted the important role played by Massachusetts Congressman Christian Herter who led a congressional fact finding delegation to Europe that was influential in generating the political support for the plan.The Marshall Plan was enabled in Europe by the far sighted leadership of British foreign minister Ernest Bevin and his French counterpart George Bidault. Here we had a socialist politician working hand in glove with a center-right one. Most interesting was the fact that Stalin understood the implications of the Marshall Plan far better than his western counterpart. He knew that it would divide Europe and that in turn would make it impossible for him to neutralize a united Germany. Thus it was the Russian backed coup in Czechoslovakia to prevent that government from participating in the plan that sealed the fate of Europe. From there it was quickly realized that aside from economic support, Europe would need military support. That realization was crystalized by the Berlin Airlift where a logistics wizard, General William Tunner did the nearly impossible task of supplying Berlin by air. NATO would come soon thereafter.Steil does a service in describing the role of British spies (The Cambridge Five) of informing Stalin of western plans and the role Soviet mole Henry Dexter White in Treasury in his continued support of keeping Germany down. We also see Henry Wallace following Stalin’s line in opposing the Marshall plan in the 1948 presidential race. Although it is not clear the full role Russia played in the 2016 election, it certainly had a candidate in Henry Wallace.Steil goes on to present his views on the NATO expansion after the Cold War ended in 1991. His take is that the U.S. was far from being clear-eyed in the 1990s of the implications of moving NATO east and the effect it would have on the Russians. I don’t think that was necessary in this book. This topic should be taken up in a future book.I read Steil’s book with a great deal of sadness. In the 1940s we had brilliant statesmen who rose to the occasion. Unfortunately our statesman of the past twenty years or so have been found wanting and this is especially true of the current administration.

I am not a professional book reviewer, just someone who enjoys reading political history. I read a lot.For me, this is an exceptional book. I was born in 1937 and grew up during and after the war reading a local newspaper and the "Weekly Reader" in a one room country school. All of the people discussed in the book come to life in great detail. I traveled extensively in Europe a few years after the war ended and saw, first hand, the destruction, hunger and despair the author so vividly describes. My grandparents sent massive shipments of food to their relatives in Germany and I was treated as a God when I visited them. The author's writing is clear; articulate, and highly expressive. I wish I had his gift. For me, this was one of the best political history books I have ever read...and I've read hundreds.

I am reading the book. So far, it is an outstanding and exceptionally detailed description of the plan that saved Europe. My father, who was born in the Early 1930's, still remembered the abundance of food and daily supplies (soap, shoes, coffee & toothpaste) that arrived in Italy as a consequence of the generosity and political wisdom of the United States of America. Benn Steils documents how Europe in 1947 was a wasteland where people were starving and social order was perilously close to civil war. Paris, Rome, Berlin were without food and cold through the Winter. It is a very important book that describes in a most readable prose the tragedy of the aftermath of World War II and the obdurate obstinacy (and criminal ideological perseverance) of the Soviet Union in a most combustible Europe. Very highly recommended! There is also a most important list of references and notes with easy to find www links to declassified documents of the US Government. The Marshall Plan probably saved Western Europe from a replay of the 1920's and an even more bloody WW III. A book that should be read by Ms.Merkel and Mr.Macron!

Benn Steil has written another fantastic book on the end of WW2 and the post-war period (see The Battle of Bretton Woods). Full of details and thoroughly cited, this work surveys the Marshall Plan, NATO, and the EU, which were all a part of a Grand Strategy that fused US free market democratic idealism to the realism of Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe. Great writing and thoroughly engaging, it is both timeless and speaks to our times as we question the effectiveness, purpose, and consequences of the EU project, NATO, and the endless US military commitment in Europe.Steil’s deference to Russian paranoia and insecurity grates on my mind and reminds me of the capitulationist mind-set throughout the Cold War (Russia has been invaded by the West many times and thus has a reasonable need for expansive western borders). Russia controlled Eastern Europe for decades and could have persuaded those nations of the benefits of amicable relations. Instead, Russia ruled over them as a tyrant and they sought freedom and security from their master at their first opportunity. Russia has only itself to blame for its predicament. We shouldn’t enable it.BUT, as Steil deftly points out, neither the US nor the EU have the political will or economic or military means to back up an effective anti-Russian policy in the East. And that inability is what was recognized and accommodated by the advocates of the Marshall Plan and related programs, and is in question now.And it is because Steil points this out so effectively that this book is required reading.

Biographer Gillian Gill is not a Christian Scientist. When she began work on the biography of Mary Baker Eddy in 1992, she knew next to nothing about her. Besides being one whale of a writer, Ms. Gill is intellectually honest. She began the project, which consumed six years of her life, with an open mind. As an historian, she read all the books and articles about Mrs. Eddy, as well as unpublished documents in the Mother Church archive, of which she was given unprecedented access. Research and writing is often a lonely task fraught with doubt, but on her journey Gill received assistance from an unexpected source, scholar Stephen Gottschalk. Both have a Ph.D in history, Gottschalk from UC Berkeley and Ms. Gill from Cambridge. Gottschalk is author of the acclaimed “The Emergence of Christian Science in American Religious Life” (1973). Says Gill: “(Gottschalk was) the person with whom I could gossip and argue and be outrageously speculative . . . he was my most dedicated, informed and challenging reader, sending me pages of valuable comments.” In 1866, Mary Baker Eddy suffered injuries from a fall on the ice. A doctor examined her and diagnosed her injuries as serious and possibly life-threatening. Confined to bed, Eddy asked for her Bible. Sometime later she rose and dressed herself, completely well. Her quick recovery was not the result of faith healing, she said, but a transformation of her thought about God. For the first time, she saw God not as the author of accidents, sickness, and sin, but as a loving and gentle presence who would never allow such calamities to occur in the first place. A life-long Bible reader, her unexpected healing convinced her the miracles performed by Christ Jesus were not miracles at all, but God’s divine law in action on the human mind, a divinely spiritual power which overruled the laws of matter and explained how Jesus was able to heal countless numbers of people, raise the dead, walk on water, feed thousands from but a few loaves of bread and fishes, and ultimately triumph over death. Mrs. Eddy was so convinced of the exactness of her discovery she took up the healing practice, held classes to teach others how to heal, wrote a book containing her insights (SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO SCRIPTURES), became a publisher of several Christian Science periodicals as well as a national newspaper, and formed a church with worldwide membership.Was Eddy’s healing mission divinely inspired, or, as some would have it, a sham and a fraud? The question is still debated. Over the yeas, a number of books have been written about her, some in praise of her mission and triumph, and some accusatory and venomous. Mrs. Eddy was no saint, nor did she claim to be. Like most 19th-century Americans, she was born on a farm and received but the most basic education. Her health was never good. She married three times, had two sons—one by birth, and one (an adult) adopted late in her life. Prior to 1866, she worked with a faith healer named Phineas Quimby. Quimby’s treatments brought only temporary relief and she looked elsewhere. The prayer that healed her injuries from the fall on the ice was permanent. Afterward, and for the first time, she enjoyed perfect health. As she taught others to heal, the healing practice spread. With publication of her book and the formation of her church, her fame grew and Eddy became a national figure. With fame came accusations of every imaginable sort, by disgruntled former students, leaders of rival churches, and by newspapers. Accusations included plagiarism and fraud. On top of this were a number of lawsuits, all with the purpose of getting at her wealth (Eddy won every case).Gill does not take up the issue of whether or not Eddy’s religious practice worked or not, but she does acknowledge that something must have happened to explain the turnaround of Eddy’s life, the success of her students’ healing practices, the unqualified success of her book, the quick spread of Christian Science, and in the early 20th-century the building spree of Christian Science churches across the country.Gill spent her years of research examining the letters, documents, newspaper and magazine articles and books about Eddy. At some point she must have decided the allegations against Eddy were not only unreasonable but unjust, often fabricated, and based on the barest thread of evidence. Indeed, in nearly all of the published attacks, Gill discovered evidence where information favorable to Eddy had been withheld. Without doubt, Eddy had made her share of mistakes, which Gill examines with an unprejudiced eye. Gill points out that among prominent figures, all have made mistakes, some quite egregious. Gill offers a number of famous names and their various misdeeds, but singles out Mark Twain in particular, a contemporary of Eddy’s. Unlike Eddy, Twain was given a pass, his errors overlooked or played down. Why? Because he was a man, Gill says. Also, Eddy was religious reformer, which are always a target. Old Testament prophets were stoned, and later in Europe reformers were burned at the stake. William Tyndale, who interpreted the Bible into English, for his efforts was condemned and burned at the stake. Eddy was a reformer and a woman, which made her an even greater target. Other women reformers of Eddy’s time—Elizabeth Cady Staton being most prominent—were targets as well, and, like Eddy, were accused of everything under the sun—witchcraft, agents of the devil, prostitutes, cranks, crazies, you name it.Gill examines all the evidence, early and late in Eddy’s long life (she lived to be 89), and in every case rules in favor of Eddy. Gill gives the New England woman her due, as a woman of remarkable character and unusual strength—as a religious leader and author, as the founder of a world-wide church, the creator of a publishing empire, and as a passionate leader of tremendous skill and vision. Limited education or not, she exhibited the managing skills of today's Fortune 500 CEOs. Bottom line—for a scholarly work Gill’s book reads remarkably well. I put the book down a couple of times, not because it didn’t make for fascinating reading, but because the unrelenting attacks on Eddy grew wearisome. How she struggled and managed to triumphed over them is the real story of this book.

Gill has written what may appear to be a neutral biography as she is neither a Christian Scientist trying to defend Eddy nor an ex-Christian Scientist trying to publish one's negative experiences with the church. I bought this as I was searching for a neutral book based on a historian's perspective. Unfortunately, Gill's effort does not fit the bill.While the book is not a hagiography, it is still largely an apologia of Eddy, defending or at least trying to find a rationale for some of Eddy's more quirky actions and behaviours. The chapter on Pleasant View is a typical example. Gill describes Eddy's severe, almost totalitarian control over her staff. Yet she somehow excuses Eddy's demeanor as a product of her times where women of her generation expected high standards. At the same time, Gill does not even try to explain Eddy's more bizarre thoughts such as her preoccupations with her enemies and their supposed attacks on her movement through "Malicious Animal Magnetism".Another example is Gill's analysis of the original 1875 edition of Science and Health. The church would find this edition to be extremely embarassing today due its unreadable rambling prose, yet Gill insists on defending the original edition. She reprints several sections in toto and argues about their validity, just as a Christian Science apologist would do. She even compares Eddy to Augustine, a fourth century theologian who like Eddy wrote his works in isolation. In a later chapter, she acknowledges the contribution of Rev. Wiggin in editing and improving the book so that it would be readable and marketable, but she then immediately downplays his efforts.Gill also has a tendency to make deductions or analyses of a particular event without giving any backup support; in effect she simply gives her opinion. One example is in the chapter Rebellious Students where she claims one of Eddy's earliest rivals, Richard Kennedy, was a closet bisexual. She makes this astonishing claim with no support in her footnote; in fact she mentions that the church's file on Kennedy was very slim indeed. Many examples of her opinions, essentially giving a positive spin to Eddy, can be found scattered throughout the book.In the end, one gets a largely flattering portrait of Eddy. I finished the book feeling that I did not really get her whole story. Perhaps that isn't surprising as Gill didn't have full access to the church archives and that she needed the church's support to get what limited access that they provided. Meanwhile, we must wait a while longer for a true historian's study on Eddy.

Ms Gill is not a Christian Scientist but you would suppose she has lived with her subject for a very long time. Her considerable forensic skills are just what her subject needs. In the sections dealing with P.P Quimby, the Misses Ware and Eddy's second husband Daniel Patterson, she contributes solid new material. Frequently she demolishes myths promulgated by the Mimine/Dakin/Braden biographies (and in a devastating appendix, analyses the motivations of these biographers). A new Mary Baker Eddy emerges, something of diamond in the rough but a diamond to be reckoned with, nonetheless. But if Ms Gill's objectivity is the result of not being a Christian Scientist, it also gives her book a problem. Her grasp of Christian Science theology is not...well, not complete. This leads, for example, to a very good joke about what Christian Science calls 'animal magnetism' but a joke based on a misconception nonetheless. Without a more complete understanding of Mrs Eddy's thinking, it is impossible for Ms Gill to provide a balanced view of her later years. The frenetic outward activity of Mrs Eddy's life in her eighties and even nineties is described minus the ballast of the spiritual mediation that made this activity possible. But this is still a very good book and a fun read. Ms Gill says Mrs Eddy would have enjoyed meeting Mark Twain. It's certain Mrs Eddy would have relished meeting Ms Gill.

I've appreciated the concept and philosophy of Ubuntu for quite some time, and was looking for a good way to share this easily with others in business and community contexts. I am grateful to authors Lundin and Nelson for sharing Ubuntu in the form of a business fable that makes it easily accessible to readers at all levels. We purchased this because it is required reading for my son's incoming freshman class at his college. This is a fast read with wonderful insights and helpful pointers on how to treat humans. I highly recommend this book!

Ubuntu! Is a book about community and working together with others, where you see each other as equals regardless of titles, corporate or social structures. Combining to achieve a common goal should unite everybody as they share the same goal. The main takeaway mimics and old acronym for TEAM: together everyone achieves more, but goes a lot deeper by explaining that the team is universal and is a human to human team rather than the isolated islands we find ourselves on, either professionally or personally. When people know about and care for each other the motivation to succeed and see them succeed grows exponentially

I ordered this book as a gift to someone interested in Ukraine. As soon as I got it, I flipped through it and was intrigued in reading it myself. The book provides great suggestions of things to do and places to visit, as well as nuanced insights into Ukrainian culture and contemporary life. It dives into details of gender roles, cultural norms, traditions, and common behavior. Maria is a great author that managed to share her personal experience in Ukraine in an accessible, candid, and engaging way. This is not a flashy tourist brochure loaded with exaggerated details and false claims. This is a guide to real Ukraine, which could save you a ticket or prepare you for your upcoming trip!

Fantastic, useful, short guide. Provides some interesting insights for expats for family and is well worth buying if you are headed to Ukraine.

Different from a traditional travel book more of a supplement. Not easy to find travel guides on the Ukraine so wanted to try this out. This is a quick read but has some solid tips. Based on the price I think it's worth the purchase.

Good one and some information "behind the scenes", written by someone actually lived in the country. Good info regarding Lviv and Kyiv, and also some general info regarding the country and the people.

Not a travel guide, but just good, clear observations and advice. Leaving for Ukraine in less than two weeks, and have learned some key information that I'm sure will help.

Not your typical tourist guide but very helpful in gettingto know the Ukrainian people and culture and getting me excited about my trip! The recommended hotels, theatres, restaurants, museums, etc offer the top choices in these categories.

Maria Kachmar's unabashed 'love letter' to Ukraine is a delightful read and a useful 'how to' for traveling in the country. Her enthusiasm for her ancestral homeland is clear, and is delivered in easy and engaging prose. Her unique position as a Western expat with a Ukrainian heritage (and language skills) mean that this little book is chock full of great suggestions for everything from museums to kid-friendly parks. I'm adding it to the list of recommended reading for our expats who will be moving to Kyiv in August. As a long-time resident of Kyiv myself, the book has been a great reminder of just how much the city has to offer, how much I still need to see, and how many places I need to go back to! Definitely recommended for anyone considering a long or short term visit to this remarkable country.

I was given this deck as a gift when I was nineteen, and used it daily (along with a couple other decks as well) for four or five years. I am now in my thirties, and never use it to do readings anymore (for everything, it's season), but glance at it fondly from time to time. A friend of mine is currently studying Jung, and very interested in archetypes, so I thought I would pass this deck along to her.Yeah, it's different than Jung, but it's possible to learn lessons from multiple sources. Some of the cards are on the weak side, but no deck is perfect. All in all using this deck was a big positive in my life. I've moved on from it, but it was a great and useful teaching tool for me.Each card lists a brief light aspect along with a shadow aspect (a positive and a negative), so if you are an experienced reader and intuitive you won't need the little book at all. I found it helpful to read the interpretations of archetypes from others as well, and you can locate plenty of that on the internet for free.The cards in this deck may depict some classic ingrained gender biases, such as Athlete is male, and Teacher is female, but overall this deck does not portray men in a negative light as was suggested by one reviewer.There are three male cards that can be viewed as being classically negative: Thief, Addict, and Martyr (although I don't personally view the martyr as negative overall as Jesus was martyred along with many others for their faith).There are seven female cards that can be viewed as being classically negative: Vampire, Saboteur, Gossip (two women on this card- double whammy!), Beggar, Prostitute, Femme Fatale, and Victim. Maybe begger isn't a negative, but I sort of see it that way. A lot of this is obviously going to change regarding your own interpretation.Both the Fool and Gambler cards are very gender ambiguous in my opinion, and can be viewed as being male or female. (I added pics) Student, Trickster, Shape-Shifter, and Messiah I also find gender ambiguous. The Warrior card to me appears as a male, but maybe the long hair makes some see this card as female?Three cards out of the 78 in this deck portray males "serving" females: Priest, Mentor, and Healer. I'm not sure how teaching, healing, or serving as a spiritual guide is negative...? Interestingly though, both the Slave and Servant card are depicted as female, but the reviewer pointing out the political gender biases failed to mention that. Actual female slaves and servants are apparently not noteworthy, but men serving women is a bee in the bonnet. Hmm.Four cards show both genders in the main role as archetype: Midas/ Miser, Monk/ Nun, Samaritan (some may see this card as two females, but one looks male to me), and Hero/ Heroine.Three cards do not include gender at all. Destroyer is a volcano, Bully is an angry cloud (don't argue that the cloud has a gender, please), and Pioneer is a lightbulb.Six cards in the deck are child cards. Nature, and Magical are female, Divine and Orphan are male, and Eternal and Wounded show both.Excluding cards that show both genders as archetype, are gender ambiguous, are not human, or are child cards there are nineteen cards with male illustrations, and thirty six with female illustrations. I can see how this might bother some sensitive users that can't stomach the idea of a world sans patriarchy, but everybody else probably won't even notice it.Another thing to remember is that ALL the cards have positive aspects. There are no true bad guys. This isn't Lord of the Rings with orcs and goblins, guys. Human beings are complex.Hopefully, looking at the pictures of the cards I added will help you decide if this deck may be useful to you, or it looks like utter rubbish. There are decks that I can't stand that friends of mine love, so you just never know with these things. Unless you can sort through them yourself in a store before buying, it can be really tough picking out a new deck. Hope this helps!

I love these cards, and especially love that the price is affordable. When they first came out they were $50. I use these cards as writing prompts. When I am doing writing practice, I pick a card and write a short story about an aspect of the card I have chosen. It works really well with fiction or nonfiction (about me). Then I end up with lots of pieces that can become a larger work. I think it will be part of a writing group that I am forming.

Alright, so these are fun cards. I use them in therapy groups as a way to think about archetypes and schemas and also ways patients present themselves (light/shadow attributes). These are sturdy, great art/colors, and are laminated. The set includes 74 archetypes and 6 blank cards. This is NOT a Tarot deck. However Caroline includes a guidebook with some ways to think about the cards and she has some related materials that might expand on ways the cards can be useful for self exploration or in supporting others' journeys.

Arrived on time as shown. I gave it two stars because honestly, it's my fault for thinking I could incorporate these in with my tarot readings. These would be great for...I don't know really, lol. They are made of very thick cardstock and have a waxy type coating so its hard to shuffle them and they are a boxy shape. I never use them and may just give them away to a therapist who may find better use for them.

The sheer amount of cards you get with this is astounding! Plus you get a few blank cards with the preset format but without description in order for you to add your OWN archetypes to the mix. It might be a challenge to come up with an archetype or two not already included in this massive deck though it's awesome just in case something comes to mind. The cards are made with professional card stock and aren't overly laminated or anything. I'd say they're well balanced there. They are larger though so you'll likely have to shuffle in the pull apart and drop method but that's a given anyway considering how gigantic the thickness of the deck is anyways with 80+ cards.

These are very attractive cards, nicely boxed, and thick and sturdy enough for frequent use. These are likely better used in conjunction with Myss's books, as you'll gleen more in-depth information about archetypes; however, a small, white booklet is included with this deck to get you started in identifying your twelve archetypes. There are also six blank cards included, which is a nice feature. I love these and am really pleased with this purchase!

These are very useful cards if you are tryng to identify which archetypes apply to you. The illustrations are beautiful, and the descriptions succinct. An accompanying booklet provides fuller descriptions of each archetype card. These cards pair well with Carolyn Myss' Sacred Contracts book and her Archetypes CD set.

I love these cards! I study character archetypes and these cards are so much better than anything else I've come across. I really love them and whenever I need a jolt out of writer's block, I shuffle and throw in the card I get.

I had never even heard of this boo before taking the Hillsdale course on C.S. Lewis.It is small - not much more than pamphlet size - so I thought I would read it before bedtime. One week later, I am still enjoying (savoring) each sentence and do believe it will be finished tomorrow. When it is, I shall wait a week - then read it again.C.S.Lewis has always been an easy read for me. Each paragraph in 'The Abolition of Man' causes me to stop and think - and solidify my thought before I go on. It is a magnificent polemic that has made me recognize and review much of my culture I took for granted. Some trends that Lewis has pointed out to me, I now knowingly embrace - others, I carefully reject.I would recommend this book to anyone!

Post-Modernism is like a copper nail in an oak tree. Eventually it poisons the tree and the oak dies. Thinking that good and evil have no relevancy to life destroys a culture and leaves it barren. That is the direction we are heading in. We are authors of our own destruction by believing that good and evil are subjective and not real. This poisoning has been going on so long that it takes on the qualities of a cancer. The body never battles cancer because it does not recognize it as a disease. The cancer then metastases and kills the body. This book was written more than 80 years ago, and yet analyzes our current condition. When truth no longer seems available, we seek something like it out. Why do you think young people are drawn to radical Islam? Read this book before your eyes are sown shut by skeptical, self centered, and mean spirited elitists disguised as social leaders.

C.S. Lewis was a very wise man. He wrote "The Chronicles of Narnia", all seven!!He also wrote books that make you stop and THINK, such as "The Abolition of MAN."If you stop and think, you will become a wise human.If you read this book, your mind will lead you to get "The Problem of Pain."And on and on through all of Professor Lewis's books (There is even a list in the front of any of his books)

Without a doubt, CS Lewis is one of the greatest minds of the last two centuries. The Abolition of Man provides a sobering look at modernism which, in turn, provides an even harsher indictment of postmodernism and its inherent moral relativism. Since everything in this book is antithetical to what's being taught in public schools and universities today, I suppose it's futile to say that this one should be required reading. I will leave it simply that Lewis can fairly be referred to as the Mozart of critical thinking and apologia. I cannot recommend this short but profound read highly enough!

I've read this book several times now. This is a must have in order to understand Lewis and the surrounding culture in which he writes. It's certainly not as theological as the other writings, but you learn some great insights into the broader liberalization of our culture.

C.S. Lewis herewith provides us the quintessential "older experienced man talking to younger men" about things and attitudes that they will need to culture in themselves to be wise with their life. He covers important and courageous topics like how to "stand alone", why to study in times of war, politics from a Godly view, how to determine God's truth, etc. These are teachings that this millennial generation needs sorely due to the failures of our current educational systems which have become only propaganda tools.

Very thought provoking, philosophical discussion of where mankind, especially western culture, could be heading: is it over the proverbial cliff? Worth reading twice, in order to get the full impact.

Do you feel like the values of our world are actively being rewritten and engineered by the media and popular science? If so, you're in the same boat as C.S. Lewis was in the 1950s.In this book, C.S. Lewis makes an argument for objective morality and objective qualitative truth in general. He argues that by rationalizing away objective value, we undermine our own humanity and become a world of two classes: the shapers and the shaped.
